All of life’s journey starts with a person taking a hard look at their life, realizing they may be unhappy, and deciding to make a change. Mine is no different. I was 38 years old at the time, 25 pounds overweight, and I had just ended a 5-year relationship. Trying to pick up the pieces, I thought to myself, “maybe I should get a fitness trainer to help me lose the weight that I put on in those 5 years and help get me into shape… maybe that’ll make me feel better”.
So for the following year, I did, and it did. I lost 10 pounds with my trainer’s help, got into better shape, and I was starting to feel better. I learned a lot from him, as he taught me things I would never have known. This was the beginning of my fitness journey.
Through extensive research, desire, and determination, I lost another 15 pounds and completely transformed my body. To my surprise, I discovered that I was capable of pushing past my own self-imposed limiting beliefs, and I thought, “If I could do it, then anyone can.” I went on to become formally educated in health and fitness, as it was my desire to bring the science behind the real-world results and show others they, too, could experience similar results.
And hence, ENERGY FITNESS was born!
Since 2004, I have been helping others realize their own strength and ability to move past their own self-imposed limitations and help them prove to themselves that they, too, can, instead of believing that they can’t.
As I’ve gotten older, I have personally experienced the subtle (and not so subtle) changes and differences from a (my) 40-year-old body and a (my) 60-year-old body. I understand that as we age, our bodies have to adjust their fitness regime to accommodate these changes. Just as no two people are the same, no two bodies are the same.
This is why I believe wholeheartedly that with the proper exercise and the right nutrition, we can perform our best… at any age! At Energy Fitness, we focus on prescribing the right fitness specific to you and your body’s needs, and together we can achieve your optimal health desires.
Barby has certifications from CPTN-(CPT), The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CPT), The C.H.E.K. Institute (HLC 1), The Ontario Fitness Council (OFC-Group Fitness Leader 3), Tabata Bootcamp, and holds certificates from Resist-A-Ball (RAB 2), and Can Fit Pro (Active Aging Specialist), and is an honors graduate from the Fitness Leadership Certification Program from Seneca College.
